What we do about it
- Repair first, honestly: stripped drive gears, worn capacitors, disconnected trolleys and bad logic boards are all fixable. We fix them when the unit has years left.
- Replace when it's right: if the opener is over 15 years old, lacks safety sensors, or the repair would cost more than half a new unit, we say so and show you the numbers side by side.
- Battery backup on every new opener: Florida code requires it on new installs, and after a storm it's the difference between driving out and lifting 200 pounds by hand.
- Belt drive by default: quieter than chain, important when there's a bedroom above the garage.
- Smart control set up before we leave: phone app, keypad, both remotes, and the HomeLink in the car if you want it.
How a visit goes
- We test the door by hand first.A heavy door burns out openers. If the spring is the real problem, you'll hear the spring price, not both.
- Then the opener.Gear, capacitor, trolley, board and sensors, in that order. Most repairs are one part.
- Repair or replace, your call.Both numbers in writing. No pressure toward the bigger one.
- Programmed and tested.Remotes, keypad, app, force limits and the safety reverse, before we drive off.
Questions about garage door openers
10 to 15 years is typical. Older units without safety sensors or with an original chain drive are usually not worth a major repair.
Florida requires battery backup on new residential opener installs. It runs the door for dozens of cycles during an outage, which matters here between June and November.
Usually an antenna wire tucked into the unit, or LED bulbs in the opener interfering with the signal. Both are a five-minute fix and we'll walk you through it on the phone.
